Section 1: About JDM Florida

Q: What is JDM Florida, and what do you sell?

JDM Florida is a used Japanese domestic market (JDM) automotive parts supplier based in Orlando, Florida. We are owned and operated by JDM TECH LLC and have grown from a small local business into one of the largest JDM parts suppliers in the United States. We sell used engines, transmissions, front clips, RHD (right-hand drive) vehicles, interior and exterior parts, and wheels, all directly imported from Japan. Our inventory covers major Japanese vehicle brands, including Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, and Mitsubishi. Every item we sell is sourced directly from Japan and imported to our Orlando warehouse before being sold and shipped to customers across the continental United States.

Q: Where is JDM Florida located?

Our warehouse and business operations are based at 2302 Mercator Drive, Unit 101, Orlando, Florida 32807, United States. We do not operate a retail walk-in store. All orders are placed through our website at jdmflorida.com and fulfilled from our Orlando warehouse. We do not currently offer local pickup.

Q: What does "JDM" mean, and why are these engines and transmissions desirable?

JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. These are vehicles, engines, and components originally manufactured in Japan and sold specifically to the Japanese market rather than being exported as new products. Japanese domestic market vehicles are well-regarded because Japan's strict vehicle inspection and recycling system (known as the "Shaken" system) means that vehicles are regularly retired at much lower mileage than comparable American-market vehicles. As a result, JDM engines and transmissions are often available with 20,000 to 70,000 miles, making them an affordable and reliable alternative to rebuilt or remanufactured units. Many JDM variants also offer higher performance specifications than their US-market counterparts. counterparts, which makes them popular among both everyday drivers and performance enthusiasts.

Q: Do you ship internationally?

No. JDM Florida ships to the continental United States only. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or any international destination. All orders must have a valid physical delivery address within the 48 contiguous states.

Q: How can I contact JDM Florida?

You can reach us by phone at +1 (407) 774-8324, by email at jdmflorida@gmail.com, or through the contact form on our Contact Us page. Our team is available Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST, and Saturday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM EST. We are closed on Sundays and federal public holidays. We aim to respond to all email and contact form inquiries within 2 to 3 business days.

Section 2: Products and Fitment

Q: What brands and vehicle makes do you carry engines and transmissions for?

We stock used JDM engines and transmissions for the following brands: Honda (including Acura), Toyota (including Lexus), Nissan (including Infiniti), Mazda, Subaru, and Mitsubishi. Within each brand, we carry a wide range of engine and transmission models suited to various vehicles and model years. You can browse available inventory by brand and category directly on our website at jdmflorida.com.

Q: How do I know if the engine or transmission I am looking at will fit my vehicle?

It is your responsibility as the buyer to verify fitment before placing an order. JDM Florida provides specifications and descriptions for each product listing to help you identify compatibility, but we do not guarantee fitment for every vehicle configuration. The best approach is to cross-reference the engine or transmission code in the listing against your vehicle's existing unit, consult your vehicle's service manual, or speak with a licensed mechanic familiar with JDM components before purchasing. If you have a specific fitment question, contact us at jdmflorida@gmail.com before placing your order, and we will do our best to assist you. Orders placed for the wrong application due to a buyer's failure to verify fitment are not eligible for a return solely on that basis.

Q: What mileage do your used engines and transmissions have?

Our used JDM engines and transmissions are sourced from Japan and typically have between 20,000 and 70,000 miles, depending on the year of manufacture and the specific unit. The Japan Shaken vehicle inspection system encourages early retirement of vehicles, which is why JDM components are available at comparatively low mileage. The approximate mileage range for each item is disclosed in the product listing. Because these are used components, minor surface wear, scratches, and cosmetic aging consistent with their history are to be expected and are not considered defects.

Q: Are the engines and transmissions tested before being sold?

Yes, JDM Florida inspects and tests its inventory as part of our quality control process before items are listed for sale. We also maintain photographic records of each item taken prior to dispatch. Our Warranty Policy describes in detail the coverage provided and the conditions under which claims can be made. Please review that page carefully before purchasing so you understand what is and is not covered.

Q: Do you sell brand-new parts?

No. All products sold by JDM Florida are used components imported directly from Japan. We do not sell brand-new, remanufactured, or rebuilt parts. All items are sold as used and are priced accordingly. The used nature of our products is clearly disclosed in every listing.

Q: Do you carry complete engine and transmission packages?

Yes. In addition to standalone engines and standalone transmissions, we sometimes carry engine-and-transmission combinations listed as a single unit. Check the product description in each listing for details on what is included. If you are looking for a specific combination and cannot find it listed, contact us at jdmflorida@gmail.com to inquire about availability.

Q: What are front clips?

A front clip, also called a front-end assembly or nose clip, is a section of the vehicle that includes the front of the body shell, the engine, the transmission, and often associated wiring, cooling components, and other front-end hardware, all still assembled as a unit. Front clips are popular for engine swaps because they come with a matching, complete assembly that removes much of the guesswork from sourcing individual components. JDM Florida carries front clips from several Japanese manufacturers. You can view available front clips in our RHD car category and subcategories.

Q: What are RHD vehicles?

RHD stands for right-hand drive. In Japan and several other countries, vehicles are manufactured with the steering wheel and primary controls on the right side of the vehicle. JDM Florida imports and sells complete RHD vehicles from Japan. These vehicles are popular for off-road use, farm and agricultural use, track use, and collector purposes. The legality of operating an RHD vehicle on public roads varies by state. Please see the state-specific section below for more detail on RHD vehicle road legality.

Q: Do you sell accessories, interior parts, and wheels?

Yes. In addition to engines and transmissions, JDM Florida carries a range of RHD car components, including interior parts such as seats, exterior parts, and wheels imported from Japan. Browse our available categories directly on our website at jdmflorida.com.

Q: What emission requirements do I need to know about before buying a JDM engine?

This is one of the most important questions to ask before purchasing. JDM engines are manufactured to Japanese emission standards, which differ from US federal and state standards. In most states, your mechanic will be required to transfer the emission control devices from your old engine onto the replacement JDM engine before the vehicle can pass a state emissions test. In California specifically, emission compliance requirements are enforced by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and a replacement engine must either be CARB-approved or be identical in specification to the original engine. JDM Florida does not guarantee that any specific engine will pass emissions testing in your state. It is your responsibility to verify compliance with your state's requirements before purchasing. For state-specific emission information, please see Section 8 of this FAQ.

We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers. For detailed information about accepted payment methods, please review our Payment Policy page.

Q: Are your prices in US dollars?

Yes. All prices displayed on jdmflorida.com are in United States Dollars (USD). Prices do not include shipping costs or applicable taxes unless explicitly stated at checkout. The full amount you will be charged, including shipping and any applicable tax, is displayed before you confirm and complete your purchase.

Q: Will I be charged sales tax?

Sales tax is collected and remitted as required by applicable state law. Florida-based transactions are subject to Florida state sales tax. For orders shipped to other states, sales tax is calculated based on our nexus obligations and the applicable destination state's economic nexus thresholds, as established under South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. (2018). If sales tax applies to your order, it will be calculated and displayed at checkout before you complete your purchase. You will not be charged any tax amount that was not shown at checkout.

Q: Can I modify my order after placing it?

Order modifications may be possible if your order has not yet been dispatched to the freight carrier. Contact us immediately at jdmflorida@gmail.com or call +1 (407) 774-8324 if you need to make a change. Once an order has been dispatched, modifications are not possible, and you would need to follow our return process after delivery. We cannot guarantee that a modification request will be fulfilled in time, so please review your order carefully before submitting it.

Q: Can I cancel my order?

You may cancel your order at no charge at any time before it has been dispatched to the freight carrier. To cancel, contact us immediately at jdmflorida@gmail.com or call +1 (407) 774-8324. If your order has already been dispatched, cancellation is not possible, and you must wait for delivery and then initiate a return. Please note that deposits are non-refundable under all circumstances. For full details, please review our Cancellation Policy.

Q: What if an item I ordered is out of stock after I place my order?

In the rare event that an item becomes unavailable after your order is confirmed, we will notify you promptly by phone or email and offer you the choice of a full refund or a suitable available alternative. We will not ship a substitute item without your approval.

Section 4: Shipping

Q: Where do you ship to?

We ship to all 48 contiguous states in the continental United States. We do not ship to Alaska. Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or any international destination.

Q: How long does it take for my order to be processed and shipped?

Order processing time is 1 to 2 business days. The order cutoff time is 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). Orders placed before 1:00 PM EST on a business day begin processing that same day. Orders placed after 1:00 PM EST or on weekends or federal holidays begin processing on the next business day. After your order is dispatched, estimated transit time is 2 to 4 business days, depending on your location. Total estimated time from order placement to delivery is 3 to 6 business days.

Q: How much does shipping cost?

Engines and transmissions shipped on a standard freight pallet are charged a flat shipping rate of $225.00 per pallet. This covers one engine or one transmission per pallet to any destination in the continental United States. If your order includes multiple pallets, the cost is $225.00 per pallet. For other products such as front clips, exterior parts, and wheels, shipping costs are calculated based on dimensions, weight, and freight class and are displayed at checkout before purchase. You will never be charged a shipping amount that was not clearly shown and confirmed at checkout.

Q: How are heavy items like engines and transmissions shipped?

All engines, transmissions, and other heavy automotive components are shipped via freight carrier on a palletized skid. This is a freight-class shipment, not a standard parcel delivery. The freight carrier will transport the pallet to your delivery address. Standard delivery is curbside, meaning the carrier delivers to the curb or nearest accessible point. You will need appropriate equipment or assistance to move the item from the delivery point to your desired location. If you require liftgate service because your location does not have a loading dock or forklift, please contact us before your order is dispatched.

Q: Will the freight carrier contact me before delivery?

In most cases, yes. Freight carriers typically contact the recipient by phone prior to a residential or business delivery to schedule a delivery window or confirm availability. Please ensure the phone number you provide at checkout is accurate and that you or an authorized representative will be available to receive and inspect the shipment.

Q: How do I track my order?

After your order is dispatched, you will receive a shipment confirmation email with a freight tracking number. You can use this number on the carrier's website to monitor your shipment. Freight tracking updates may not be as frequent as standard parcel tracking. If your tracking shows no movement for more than 3 business days after dispatch, contact us at jdmflorida@gmail.com and we will investigate with the carrier on your behalf.

Q: What should I do when my delivery arrives?

Inspect your order thoroughly before signing the freight carrier's proof of delivery. This step is critical. Before the driver leaves, check the outer packaging and the item itself for any signs of damage. If you notice any damage, write a clear description of it on the proof of delivery document before signing and take photographs immediately. You also have the right to refuse the delivery if the damage is significant. If you sign the proof of delivery without noting any damage, you are acknowledging that the item arrived in acceptable condition, which may limit your ability to file a damage claim afterward. For full details, please review our Shipping Policy.

Q: What if my shipment arrives damaged?

If your item arrives with damage that you documented on the proof of delivery, contact us within 48 hours of delivery at jdmflorida@gmail.com. Include your order number, a written description of the damage, and photographs of the damaged item and packaging. We will review the documentation and work with the carrier to resolve the claim. We maintain pre-dispatch photographs of all items, which helps us support your claim with the carrier. For full details, review our Shipping Policy.

Q: What if my shipment is lost?

If your tracking shows no movement for an extended period or if the carrier marks the order as delivered but you have not received it, contact us immediately at jdmflorida@gmail.com or call +1 (407) 774-8324. We will initiate a freight trace with the carrier. Investigations typically take 5 to 10 business days. If the carrier confirms the shipment is lost, we will arrange a resolution, which may include a replacement or a full refund. Please review our Shipping Policy and Return & Refund Policy for full details.

Section 5: Returns and Refunds

Q: What is your return policy?

We accept returns on eligible items within 30 calendar days of the purchase date. The item must be uninstalled, fully assembled, in the same condition as it was sold, and must include all originally supplied components. A Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number is required before any return can be shipped back to us. Returns sent without an RMA number will be refused at our warehouse. For the complete return process, eligibility requirements, and all conditions, please review our Return & Refund Policy.

Q: How do I initiate a return?

Email us at jdmflorida@gmail.com with the subject line "Return Request—Order #[Your Order] Number]." Include your full name, order number, the item you are returning, the reason for the return, and photographs of the item in its current condition. We will review your request and respond within 2 to 3 business days. If approved, we will issue you an RMA number that must be clearly marked on the outside of the return packaging. Do not ship the item back before receiving your RMA number. For the full step-by-step process, visit our Return & Refund Policy page.

Q: Do you charge a restocking fee?

No. JDM Florida does not charge a restocking fee on standard eligible returns initiated within the 30-calendar-day return window. However, if you refuse a delivery without a valid documented reason, or if your order was already dispatched when you requested a cancellation, the return freight cost will be deducted from your refund. For full details, please review our Return & Refund Policy.

Q: Who pays for return shipping?

In most standard return cases, the customer is responsible for all return shipping costs. Return freight for palletized items is significant due to the size and weight of engines and transmissions. JDM Florida will cover or arrange return shipping only when we have shipped the wrong item or when the item was materially misrepresented in the listing and we have confirmed the discrepancy. For full details, see our Return & Refund Policy.

Q: Can I return an engine or transmission that has already been installed?

No. Once an engine, transmission, or any other major drivetrain component has been installed into a vehicle, it is not eligible for return. Installation constitutes use of the product under conditions different from those at the time of sale, and we are unable to verify the item's condition after installation. Please inspect the item carefully before installation and contact us immediately if you notice any issues.

Q: How long does it take to receive my refund?

After your returned item is received at our warehouse and inspected, refunds are processed within 5 to 10 business days from the date of approval. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. After we initiate the refund, your bank or card issuer may take an additional 3 to 10 business days to reflect the credit in your account. If you have not received your refund within 15 business days of receiving your approval confirmation from us, contact us at jdmflorida@gmail.com or call +1 (407) 774-8324.

Q: Are original shipping costs refunded?

No. Original outbound shipping costs are non-refundable in standard return scenarios. They are only refunded if the return was caused by a confirmed error on our part, such as shipping the wrong item or an item materially different from its listing description.

Q: What items cannot be returned?

The following items are not eligible for return under any circumstances: ECUs and all other electronic control units; any electrical or wiring components; any item that has already been installed into a vehicle; items purchased with specific non-return disclosures at the time of sale; rotary engines sold as used performance units with no warranty (Mazda RX-7 13BT, 13BTT, and 20B); and deposits of any kind. For the complete list of non-returnable items, review our Return & Refund Policy.

Section 6: Warranty

Q: Do your engines and transmissions come with a warranty?

Yes. JDM Florida provides a limited warranty on most used engines and transmissions. Coverage periods are as follows: used replacement engines—90 days from the date of purchase (unless otherwise specified on the invoice); used performance engines—30 days; used replacement transmissions—90 days; used performance transmissions—30 days; rotary engines (Mazda RX-7 13BT, 13BTT, and 20B sold as performance units)—no warranty; ECUs and all electronic units—no warranty. For the full scope of covered items, exclusions, and the complete claims procedure, please review our warranty policy.

Q: What does the warranty cover?

The limited warranty covers internal engine components including pistons, piston rings, crankshaft and main bearings, connecting rods and rod bearings, camshaft and camshaft bearings, timing chains and gears, intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, oil pump, push rods, rocker arms and shafts, and the engine block and cylinder head, warranted to be free of deep cracks or distortions that would prevent normal operation. The warranty does not cover external components such as intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetors, distributors, starters, water pumps, belts, hoses, sensors, wiring, computers, injectors, turbos, engine mounts, or drive shafts. It also does not cover labor costs, installation costs, overheating damage, damage caused by improper installation, modifications, racing use, or wear and tear. For the full covered and excluded items list, see our warranty policy.

Q: What are my warranty maintenance obligations?

Warranty coverage is contingent on following the required maintenance procedures before and after installation. For engines, these include replacing engine oil and oil filter, replacing gaskets (valve cover, oil pan, and rear main seal), inspecting and replacing the timing belt or chain with a new kit, replacing the thermostat and water pump, flushing and refilling the cooling system with antifreeze, installing new spark plugs, belts, and hoses, and changing the oil after the first 600 miles. For transmissions, required steps include checking the flexplate, replacing the oil, pan, gasket and seals, flushing and inspecting transmission cooling lines, properly aligning the torque converter (automatic transmissions), and resetting control module codes. Failure to perform these maintenance procedures will void the warranty. For the complete maintenance requirements, review our Warranty Policy.

Q: Do I need a certified mechanic to install the engine for the warranty to be valid?

Yes. JDM Florida strongly recommends and effectively requires installation by a licensed or certified mechanic for the warranty to remain valid. If you choose to self-install, the warranty may be voided at our discretion. A valid mechanic's written report and diagnosis are required to support any warranty claim. The mechanic is also responsible for confirming that the engine is in acceptable condition before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

Q: How do I file a warranty claim?

Initiate all warranty claims by sending an email to jdmflorida@gmail.com with a precise explanation of the issue, your order number, a mechanic's written report, and supporting photographs or documentation. If the claim is approved, you will be required to return the item to our warehouse for inspection before a replacement or refund is issued. The customer is responsible for return freight costs on warranty claims. For the complete claims procedure, see our Warranty Policy.

Q: Does the warranty apply to RHD vehicles and accessories?

Warranty coverage is specific to the products described in our Warranty Policy. RHD vehicles, exterior parts, interior parts, wheels, and accessories may have different or no warranty coverage. Please review the individual product listing and our warranty policy for specific coverage details applicable to the item you are purchasing.

Section 7: Installation Guidance

Q: Can I install the engine or transmission myself?

While we cannot legally prevent you from self-installing, JDM Florida strongly recommends that all engines, transmissions, and major drivetrain components be installed by a licensed or certified mechanic. Self-installation by an unqualified individual may void your warranty and may also compromise the safety and reliability of the installation. If you are an experienced mechanic or automotive professional, you are welcome to review the installation requirements outlined in our warranty policy before proceeding.

Q: What should my mechanic do before starting the engine for the first time?

Before starting a newly installed JDM engine, your mechanic should complete all required maintenance steps. This includes replacing the engine oil and filter, replacing all gaskets, installing a brand-new timing belt or chain kit with water pump, replacing the thermostat, flushing and refilling the cooling system, and installing new spark plugs and belts. The engine should never be started before the timing belt or chain kit is installed, as doing so can cause catastrophic internal damage that will not be covered under any warranty. After installation, the mechanic should change the oil again at 600 miles and monitor the engine closely during the first 100 to 200 miles to ensure all components are functioning properly.

Q: What should my mechanic do before starting the transmission for the first time?

Before completing installation of a JDM transmission, your mechanic should check the flexplate for cracks or wear, replace the oil pan gasket, front seal, and axle seals, flush and inspect the transmission cooling lines, properly align the torque converter (for automatic transmissions), add transmission fluid to manufacturer specifications, and reset control module codes. Proper installation is essential both for the reliability of the unit and to preserve warranty coverage.

Q: What happens if my mechanic finds an issue during installation?

If your mechanic identifies a concern with the engine or transmission during the installation process, they should stop the installation immediately and contact us at jdmflorida@gmail.com or +1 (407) 774-8324 before proceeding. We encourage mechanics to contact us with questions during the installation if they are unfamiliar with a specific JDM unit. Continuing the installation despite a known issue may compromise any applicable warranty coverage.

Section 8: State-Specific Questions

Q: I live in California. Can I buy and install a JDM engine in my vehicle?

California has the most stringent vehicle emission requirements in the United States, enforced by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). To legally install a replacement engine in a California-registered vehicle that is subject to smog testing, the replacement engine must be CARB-compliant. This typically means the replacement engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle, of the same or equivalent displacement, and must use all original emission control devices. JDM engines imported from Japan are not automatically CARB-certified, and installing a non-compliant engine in a smog-check vehicle may cause the vehicle to fail its California emissions test. JDM Florida ships to California customers, but we do not guarantee that any specific engine will pass California's smog inspection. You are strongly advised to consult with a licensed California mechanic and verify compliance with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and the California Air Resources Board before purchasing. For vehicles used off-road, on a track, or on private property and not subject to California road registration and smog testing, these restrictions may not apply in the same way.

Q: I live in Texas. Are there any state-specific requirements I should know about?

Texas requires that replacement engines in certain registered vehicles comply with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) emission standards and pass the state's vehicle emissions inspection where applicable. Before purchasing a JDM engine, Texas customers should verify with a licensed Texas mechanic whether the specific replacement engine they intend to install will meet the requirements for their vehicle's registration classification. Texas also has specific salvage and rebuilt title regulations that may apply to vehicles receiving major powertrain replacements. For more information, contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) or a licensed Texas mechanic.

Q: I live in New York. What should I know before buying a JDM engine?

New York State requires vehicles registered for road use to pass the New York OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) emissions inspection and safety inspection administered by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NY DMV). A replacement JDM engine must be properly integrated with the vehicle's OBD system for the vehicle to pass inspection. New York customers should confirm with a licensed mechanic familiar with New York inspection requirements that the JDM engine they intend to purchase is compatible with their vehicle's inspection needs.

Q: I live in Florida. Are there any special rules for buying JDM parts or RHD vehicles?

As a Florida-based business, JDM Florida is fully compliant with all Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) regulations. Florida currently does not have a mandatory statewide emissions test for most vehicles, which makes engine replacement generally more straightforward for Florida residents than for customers in states like California. However, Florida does have vehicle registration and title requirements that apply to RHD vehicles imported for road use. Customers purchasing RHD vehicles intended for on-road operation in Florida should consult the FLHSMV and a licensed title agent to ensure proper registration and compliance before operating the vehicle on public roads.

Q: Can RHD vehicles be legally driven on public roads in the United States?

The legality of operating a right-hand drive vehicle on public roads varies significantly by state. Some states permit RHD vehicles on public roads without restriction, while others require an inspection or have specific registration requirements. For off-road, agricultural, track, or private property use, most states do not impose restrictions. Below is a general summary of RHD road legality by state, though customers should always verify current regulations directly with their state's DMV or equivalent authority before purchasing:

States that generally permit RHD vehicles on public roads with standard registration: Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Nevada, and most other states allow RHD vehicles to be titled and registered for on-road use. subject to standard safety inspections.

States with additional requirements or stricter scrutiny: California, New York, and a small number of other states may have additional inspection, safety, or equipment requirements for non-standard vehicles, including RHD units. Customers in these states should contact their state DMV before purchasing an RHD vehicle for road use.

Federal requirement: All vehicles operated on US public roads must comply with applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). RHD vehicles imported from Japan that are 25 years or older at the time of import are generally exempt from FMVSS compliance requirements under the federal 25-year rule (49 CFR § 591.5(j)), which is why many JDM RHD vehicles available in the US market are of that age or older. For vehicles less than 25 years old, compliance with FMVSS and EPA regulations is required before the vehicle can be titled and registered for road use.

JDM Florida encourages all customers purchasing RHD vehicles to research their specific state's requirements and to consult with a licensed title agent or automotive attorney if they have questions about registration and road legality.

Q: Are there any states where JDM engines have specific legal restrictions for road use?

Beyond California's CARB requirements and the general emissions compliance notes above, most US states do not have specific laws prohibiting the installation of JDM replacement engines in vehicles intended for road use, provided the replacement engine is compatible and the vehicle continues to pass applicable inspections. However, state rules on salvage titles, rebuilt titles, and major powertrain changes vary. In some states, a vehicle that has undergone a major powertrain replacement may need to undergo a state inspection before it can be retitled or re-registered. Customers are advised to check with their state's DMV or a licensed mechanic familiar with local requirements before completing a JDM engine installation in a road-registered vehicle.
